Job Summary

Job Summary:

As a Technical Writer, you will write or revise software documentation for NetApp’s products and technologies.  Documentation may include books, guides, man pages, release notes, online help, embedded help, error messages, API programming guides, API reference manuals, SDKs, web pages, flyers, posters, and videos.  You will work cross-functionally with other professionals in the engineering, field support, sales, and marketing groups, as well as NetApp customers who use NetApp products and services. The successful individual in this role will be a team player who is comfortable working as an individual contributor, and who has a passion for working in the technology industry.

 
Essential Functions:
  • Produce quality documentation, including conceptual overviews, objective-based tasks, best practices, API libraries, reference material, and release notes
  • Lead a team responsible for completion of projects or releases. Develop the documentation plan for the team projects.
  • Write or manipulate code samples to support key customer use-cases
  • Implement library strategies for a product line

Job Requirements

·Excellent oral and written communication skills

·Strong grammatical skills

·Technical experience in the following areas preferred:

  • Documenting or developing REST APIs, SDKs, or other development-driven source content
  • Documenting cloud-based and SaaS products

oProgramming or system administration

·Familiarity with engineering documentation required for new product introduction

·Familiarity with cloud computing technology

·Demonstrated expertise in current publishing tools

·Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of other writers, editors and cross functional peers to support deadlines

·Ability to understand and follow:

o   NetApp publications standards and production processes

o   Bug tracking processes using Atlassian tools

o   Experience with wiki-based documentation systems, and specifically Confluence

    • The tasks this individual is responsible are often unstructured and the issues addressed are less defined, requiring new perspectives and creative approaches.
    • This individual will apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving problems that are complex in scope requiring in-depth evaluation. 
    • Demonstrate good judgment in solving problems as well as identifying problems in advance, and proposing solutions.
    • Independently and efficiently acquire deep, comprehensive expertise in specified areas of the product and an excellent working knowledge of the entire product line. Serve as an SME for colleagues across the company and its ecosystem.
  • Interaction:
    • This individual must work effectively with Staff to Vice President level employees within the function, across functions and with external parties.
    • Limited supervision and direction is provided, as this individual can operate and drive results and set priorities independently.
    • The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject matter expert.

To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable results through regular leadership and influencing others

Education

Education & Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of technical writing and/or programming experience is required. 9 to 11 years of experience is preferred.
  • A Bachelor of Engineering or Computer Science or Science or Arts Degree in English or Journalism is required.
  • Technical experience is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects.
