Job Summary

Service Processor/Baseboard Management controller (SP/BMC) FW/SW team is responsible for providing firmware capability in NetApp products to help manage health of the system. This is done by closely monitoring vital HW components on the subsystem directly managed by SP/BMC silicon and interacting with Storage OS and alert user in time to function and serve the purpose. Thus, SP/BMC subsystem has become vital part of NetApp’s SW solution. Support for SP/BMC firmware is slowly expanding to other BUs in netapp with different set of host OS and HW dependencies. With multiple products out in the field, significant amount of work is required in maintaining support for platform.

 

As a software development engineer, person will be working closely with other members in the team and organisation helping resolving filed issues and continue improving quality experience for NetApp customers. This job often comes up with oppurtnities for an individual to lead fetaures for a project, work closely with architect to do proof of concept work to see viability of future project, define the role for themselves as a individual contributor in technical path or a people manager. Due to responsibility of the team to work closely with field, there are several oppurtinities that opens up to enrich the skill set and learn new technologies by being part of this team.

- Resourceful in applying creative ideas to solve problems Responsibility and Interaction:- Responsibility: - Responsible for non-routine and unstructured tasks, requiring creative solutions with more interdependencies and with processes that are less defined

- The individual works on complex problems with partially defined, larger scope

- May work with teams across the company in problem solving and design efforts

- The individual will begin to develop a technical specialtyInteraction: - Work effectively with staff to senior manager level employees within the function and the technical team on assigned projects. There may be communication with employees in other functions within Business Units as required

- Work independently- Successfully convey information to stakeholders at many levels related to the position

- Participate as a proactive contributor and subject matter expert on team projects- Demonstrate favorable results through coaching and influencing others

 

 

Education

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience. 

Any prior experiecne with service processor work or baseboard management controller work with NetApp is highly benefecial.
