Job Summary

As a Global Sourcing Partner, Technology, you are part of the Global Sourcing Services (GSS) team responsible for strategic sourcing of ~$250M of software, services, hardware and telecommunications for several business unit customers. You will serve as the primary business interface between your business unit customers, Global Sourcing Services, and NetApp’s third-party strategic sourcing Service Provider. You will work with your designated business unit customers and the Service Provider to manage sourcing demand and customer requirements for several projects. You will focus on overseeing strategic sourcing projects and developing spend category strategies for complex categories under your area of responsibility. To be successful, you will need strong capability in:

  • Customer relationship management – being a trusted business advisor
  • Project management - communication, facilitation and collaboration skills
  • Opportunity identification expertise – deep knowledge in spend areas, especially software and services.


Essential Functions:

Customer Relationship Management

·Designs and maintains relationship management and interaction cadence for designated business area(s)

·Serves as a trusted business advisor and provides customers with insights/opportunities to better manage external spend within their areas

·Promotes awareness and channels sourcing demand to GSS

·Drives change management within designated business units to increase utilization of best practices sourcing and procurement solutions

·Manages global business unit customer expectations, perception and satisfaction (plans, implements, business reviews and actions customer satisfaction surveys)

·Drives the proactive use of service level metrics and other reporting to manage customer service and identify opportunities for service improvements  

Category Strategy and Demand Management

·Understands the business unit strategy (of their designated internal customer) and proactively identifies and confirms business requirements

·Develops annual categories plans, including detailed spend analysis, supply market analysis, business and category strategy alignment, stakeholder analysis and opportunity pipeline

·Works with key leaders in designated business units to define sourcing strategies and coordinate execution with GSS team

·Works with regional GSS colleagues where applicable to agree on and develop local and regional sourcing strategies for designated categories/areas of spend

·Identifies opportunities and develops a project pipeline in collaboration with business units ·Work with business units to understand current and future spend for all in-scope and new services/products.

·Coordinates services, projects, and plans globally within designated business units to ensure priorities are addressed appropriately

Job Requirements

Sourcing Operations

·  Provides feedback on outsourced processes and work streams

·  Develops and maintains category cards (desktop instructions for tactical execution by Sourcing Services Provider) for designated categories/areas of spend

·  Provides coaching, education and feedback to Services Provider (tactical execution team) on designated business units, categories/areas of spend

·  Tracks and reports status of sourcing projects

·   Has deep process skills; an understanding of process costs, and the ability to work with Service Provider to ensure effective operations and agreed upon service levels

Leads Strategic Sourcing Projects

·   Main interface with BU, especially on sensitive or critical projects

·   Identifies and defines high-level business requirements with designated business units

·   Provides project oversight and guidance, especially with respect to meeting key milestones and ensuring stakeholders buy-in

·   Develops negotiations strategies and leads the negotiations process

·   Drives overall project reporting, status, metrics and output of results for strategic projects

·  Participates in post sourcing project reviews and project evaluations

 · Strong leadership and change management skills

· People management skills

· Ability to accomplish results through others, particularly by establishing relationships, effective controls and monitoring processes

· Significant prior experience in all elements of sourcing and category management

· Ability to develop and analyze business cases, spend analytics, and financial models

· Ability to translate data into convincing insights/information

· General technical knowledge of spend categories for your designated business unit

· Strong Project Management skills with the ability to lead and prioritize activities

· Strong Collaboration and Interpersonal skills

· Effective written and verbal communication and influencing skills (both internally with customers, and the supplier community, as well as the third party Service Provider)

· Proven negotiations skills

· Ability to collaborate and partner with designated business unit customers and the Service Provider team

· Ability to manage the Service Provider indirectly – managing by influence as opposed to positional authority, with the ability to focus on the “what”, not the “how”

· Knowledge of productivity and service level measures and methodologies


  • A minimum of 12 years of experience as an individual contributor and a minimum of 5 years as a people manager is required in the strategic sourcing areas.
  • An MBA/Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree required, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, critical projects is required
  • Deep category management expertise in the technology spend areas (priority on software, services, with secondary focus on hardware, telecom)
