Job Summary

The Global Commodity Manager is responsible for the Freight and Logistics (F&L) global category management including developing the companywide F&L harmonized sourcing strategy(ies), collaborating closely with the business-area leads, driving strategy, cost saving initiatives and associated sourcing projects, and facilitating supplier executive business reviews. Logistics areas include, but are not limited to, monitoring manufacturing partners’ inter-site and intra-site material freight costs, ocean freight, global air freight, distribution centers/ 3PL, customer fulfillment, global services & returns, third party ex-works freight, and supporting NetApp’s intra-site needs.  This role will provide oversight, guidance, and goal setting with project management rigor across different global/functional areas.  Additionally, the role supports development of total cost of freight & logistics supply chain strategies and partners closely with Supply Chain, Fulfillment, Finance, Global Service Logistics, Procurement, and their corresponding regional/functional area stakeholders.

What your responsibilities will be:

  • Coordinate global cross functional team(s) driving governance, cost, quality, service, technology, and innovation efficiencies through stakeholder engagement and supplier performance and strategy improvement.
  • Develop and manage end-to-end RFI/ RFPs spanning from creation, issuance, and facilitation of the entire process through supplier selection, in collaboration with the extended stakeholder cross functional team; to build consensus, resolve conflict, lead and provide guidance or facilitate negotiations with suppliers, drive project activity through the communication of expectations, creation and enforcement of deliverables, and management of issues/risks
  • Oversee the contracting process and supplier negotiations to ensure cost savings targets are achieved and internal stakeholder requirements are incorporated in all new agreements. This includes mentoring team members on negotiations.

Job Requirements

  • Partner with Finance and global stakeholders to accurately forecast annual category spend, align critical cost assumptions, and reconcile actual spend against financial targets
  • Develop and lead supplier relationship management efforts, including facilitating QBR & EBR structure and governance with the focus on the top preferred and strategic suppliers.
  • Share best practices of Global Procurement’s processes to drive synergies and improve effectiveness of Freight and Logistics category area
  • Review and be familiar with current contract and contract templates to ensure NetApp’s business is protected and identify procurement risks and opportunities.
  • Serve as the point expert on NetApp’s Freight and Logistics; including the strategy, contracts, global category spend, supplier performance, issues & resolution, opportunities, governance, and initiative status.

What We're Looking For:
8 years of relevant professional experience; within Freight and Logistics

  • Proven track record of successful supplier negotiations and management
  • Proven ability to drive cross functional, global team collaboration.


  • Ability to navigate difficult situations and strong personalities
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong track record in building both internal and external relationships
  • Experience working closely with and frequently presenting to senior management
  • Experience leading global projects with cross functional teams
  • Strong financial acumen (understanding of expenses, working capital, payment terms, cash flows)
  • Direct knowledge and experience in negotiating contracts
  • Experience developing contract terms and executing due diligence with Legal
  • Understanding of different types of freight rates (ocean, air, and truck freight)
  • Strong ability to influence directly or indirectly on a global basis
  • Strong ability to lead through change (systems, organizational and environmental)
  • Focus on Logistics market intelligence and spend analytics to drive business decisions
  • Experience developing performance metrics for procurement activities
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent verbal/written skills
  • Proficient in PowerPoint
  • Fluent in the use of Excel for analyzing large data sets; Pivot Table, vlookups, etc…
  • Fluent in English

Preferred skills:

  • Willingness to travel (position may require up to 20% travel)
  • Strong customer service background
  • Knowledge of Ariba; and ability to utilize it for sourcing events
  • Strong analytical skills to leverage data in decision making processes

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.

Colorado Residents Only: If the Company determines this role will be performed in Colorado, compensation in Colorado
may range from  122,500 to 129,000 Actual compensation will be dependent on location, qualifications, experience and other factors, consistent with applicable law.
