This Sales, Support and Services (S3) Academy gives graduates base-skills and on-going preparation to set them up for success in their careers. After training, Academy Participants move into the field.

The S3 Academy includes a robust 90-day training program designed for entry-level talent. During this training, Academy Participants gain the foundational knowledge needed to have a basic understanding of the Storage Industry, NetApp, and products and solutions. Additionally, they effectively develop transferable soft skills that will allow them to excel within the organization and in their long-term careers. The training is a full year program including 3 months in RTP, Durham, North Carolina, USA and 9 months job shadowing in the field after returning to one of our offices in Germany. We have offices in multiple locations: Munich, Stuttgart, Duesseldorf, Berlin.

Job Requirements


As a Trainee Solutions Engineer within NetApp’s go-to-market team, you will be primarily responsible for supporting pre and post sales activities of our products and services to new and existing customers. You will use your excellent technical and communication skills to work with sales and professional services teams, partners and resellers, to ensure the best possible solution is delivered.


In this entry-level role, you will be supporting experienced NetApp Solutions Engineers and Professional Services Consultants, as part of a virtual team and help with a number of activities designed to drive sales of NetApp products. You will receive significant training to expand your knowledge of storage, data management and 3rd Party technologies. You will develop your soft skills in customer care by working directly with Clients and experienced colleagues.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Support the identification of customer needs & requirements
  • Capture the Customer’s technical infrastructure environment
  • Execution of capacity and performance sizing
  • Support account teams answer technical Customer queries
  • Attend Customer meetings and meetings with Sales Reps
  • Customer support through Proof of Concepts (POC) and evaluations
  • Technical Consulting, provision of product and Customer information as well as product and technology demos

  • Good interpersonal communication and customer service skills – to work successfully with prospects, customers and cross-functional teams
  • A quick study – the ability to learn new technologies and how to apply them to Customer needs

  • Business trips and working on site with Customers when necessary
  • You will have successfully completed a BSc or MSc within the last 18 months, prior to the start of the program in February 2020; ideally in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Business Informatics or similar. Other Degrees will be taken into account.
  • You must have the unrestricted right to work in Germany. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship. Please refer to the recruiter for roles in other global locations.
  • Fluency in German and English (written and spoken).
  • Any experience in sales and/or consulting is an advantage.
