This Sales, Support and Services (S3) Academy gives graduates base-skills and on-going preparation to set them up for success in their careers. After training, Academy Participants move into the field.


The S3 Academy includes a robust 90-day training program designed for entry-level talent. During this training, Academy Participants gain the foundational knowledge needed to have a basic understanding of the Storage Industry, NetApp, and products and solutions. Additionally, they effectively develop transferable soft skills that will allow them to excel within the organization and in their long-term careers. The training is a full year program including 3 months in RTP, Durham, North Carolina, USA and 9 months job shadowing in the field after returning to our Rivermead or London City Office.


Job Summary:

NetApp is looking for a diverse group of individuals for our Sales Development Representative positions within the S3 Academy Graduate Program. In this role, you are responsible for identifying sales opportunities in new accounts or new sites of an existing account in a sales district. Your goal will be to uncover opportunities and take them to the point of purchase with our field sales and channel partner teams.


In this graduate position, you will assist and collaborate with experienced NetApp Sales and Inside Sales Representatives as part of a virtual team, providing a core set of functions essential to driving sales opportunities. Through web based, classroom led and hands on training, a successful Sales Development Representative will improve communication skills and develop the ability to deal with objections to gain a “next step” commitment. In addition, you will develop your soft /customer facing skills by working directly with customers and more senior team members in Sales and Inside Sales.


Essential Functions:

The essential responsibilities of the Sales Development Representatives are to work directly with the NetApp Sales team to support customers in sales situations, and to work effectively across functions with other NetApp employees in Sales, Marketing, Customer Service and Development areas.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Prospect and develop leads
  • Make a large amount of phone calls, both warm and cold to generate leads (70+)
  • Understand prospects’ needs and qualify them
  • Communicating our value proposition in a pitch to potential customers
  • Provide follow up on demand-generation activities
  • Responsible for building sales/lead pipeline by meeting & exceeding lead generation (SAL) quotas
  • Create and maintain a database of contacts of current and future customers
  • Analyze customer needs in terms of current business obstacles, identifying opportunities and scoping potential for NetApp products

Job Requirements

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English are required (mandatory to be considered for the role). 
  • Good interpersonal, negotiation and organizational skills are needed in order work successfully with prospects, customers, and cross functional teams to meet performance goals.
  • Ability to analyze information and convey information clearly to help prospects make buying decisions.
  • Knowledge of tools, Salesforce, SAP, Microsoft Office.
  • Creative approach to problem solving.
  • Highly motivated team player.
  • Entrepreneur minded work ethic.

Education & Experience:

  • Must have graduated within the past 18 months or will graduate in May/June 2018 with a Bachelors or Masters degree in Business Studies or Engineering. Other degrees will be considered.
  • Relevant experience in the software- and data management industry is a plus.
  • Experience in sales is a plus and a good understanding of the sales/buying cycle, and the ability to determine sales opportunities.
  • Experience which demonstrates an ability to understand and communicate technical solutions selling concepts is beneficial.
