As a Software Engineer in Test at NetApp, you will work as part of a team responsible for the development, testing and sustaining of a key component of the NetApp data management portfolio. You'll be part of the Research and Development function, focusing on enhancements to existing products as well as new product development. This position requires you to be creative, enthusiastic, team-oriented, technology savvy, driven to produce results and demonstrate leadership.

Essential Functions

  • Be an integral part of a highly productive team doing product design, development, verification, validation, documentation and qualification of software
  • Actively lead and participate in technical discussions within the team and with peer teams when evaluating and executing design and development plans for our software defined and cloud product portfolio
  • Must possess a  willingness to take on tasks and responsibilities that will contribute to team, organization, and company business goals
  • Exceptional problem solving and troubleshooting skills 
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to more junior engineers

Job Requirements

Work collaboratively within a team of other engineers and have strong influencing and leadership skills to meet aggressive goals and maintain high quality standards across the organization

Possesses sufficient technical knowledge and experience to pick up new expertise quickly without guidance from a technical leader

Strong aptitude for learning new technologies

Broad range of technical knowledge within department and working knowledge of major system component interactions; Recognized expert in a portion of product area

A strong understanding of complex concepts related to computer architecture, data structures and programming practices

Ability to estimate work completion required to build an overall predictable plan along with ability to develop longer-range project plans and schedules.

Resourcefulness and creativity in applying ideas to solve problems

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential

Responsible for unstructured tasks and the issues addressed are less defined requiring new perspectives, creative approaches and with more interdependencies

Experience with Linux/FreeBSD development is a plus

Development experience including the design, implementation, documentation and maintanance of customer driven use cases incorporating requirements from product marketing in Perl, Python, C or C++

Understanding of multi-threaded & multi process environments

Experience working with virtual and cloud environments is a must (AWS, Azure, KVM, etc…)

Limited supervision and direction is provided, as this individual can operate, drive results and set priorities independently

Successfully convey information to stakeholders at many levels related to the position

Work effectively with senior engineers within Business Unit

Participate as a proactive contributor and subject matter expert

Demonstrate favorable results through regular leadership and mentoring of others

Education

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.
