Job Summary

The FailOver (FO) Performance Development team is looking for a high energy, self-starting C developer. The FO team is part of the WAFL I/O development organization which is core to the ONTAP operating system. This team is comprised of a very strong group of engineers that have a passion for both refactoring non-performant code and developing new features to mitigate performance bottlenecks. A successful candidate should have strong knowledge of C design, coding and testing. They should be good at multi-tasking as our team is involved in many projects concurrently. They should have a proven track record of being able to work well in a team environment, but also be able to contribute as an individual. Though performance knowledge is not mandatory, prior involvement with performance or performance analysis is extremely helpful. If this sounds interesting to you, consider joining our family. This specific position requires an individual to be creative, team-oriented, a quick learner, driven to produce results and the desire to make work fun. There may also be an opportunity to learn/own some tooling related to our private lab

Essential Functions:

- Designing, and modifying code changes to existing ONTAP operating system performance related code
- Responsible for providing support in development and testing activities of other engineers
- Designing, and coding new features that pertain to ONTAP Performance
- Testing, Unit Testing and automation of code written
- Debugging
- Performance Analysis
- Participate in technical discussions within the team or other groups within the Business Unit associated with specified projects
- Willing to work on additional tasks and responsibilities that will contribute towards team, department, and company goals

Job Requirements

- Very Strong C coding skills in a complex Operating System environment
- Performance Experience is a huge plus
- High energy and proven track record of the ability to multi-task
- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential
- Strong team player and ability to work independently and in a team environment with other engineers to meet aggressive goals and high-quality standards
- Knowledge and experience in Storage, Performance/Analysis, FailOver, Agile very helpful
- Proven aptitude for learning new technologies quickly
- Proficient in technology and development
- Strong familiarity of basic concepts of computer architecture, data structures and standard programming practices
- Follow standard engineering principles and practice
- Creative and analytical approach to problem solving

Responsibility and Interaction:

- Responsibility:
- Responsible for a mix of structured and unstructured tasks
- Apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving routine to moderately complex problems
- May work with teams across the company in problem solving and design efforts


- Interact primarily with direct manager, team lead and the technical team on assigned projects. There may be communication with employees in other functions within the Business Unit as required
- General direction is provided on routine work and detailed direction is provided on new projects and assignments. There will be on-going reviews of activities and priorities
- Participate as an important contributor to team projects


- A minimum of 5 years of experience is required. 6 to 8 years of experience is preferred
- A Master Degree, or a PhD in Computer Science; or equivalent experience is required
- Demonstrated ability to have successfully completed multiple, moderately complex technical tasks
