Job Summary
The IT Cloud Architect provides technical guidance, recommendations & leadership to IT platform, Infrastructure and applications teams. Responsible for determining business and technical requirements, creating and reviewing technical architectures, creating written enterprise reference standards, and supporting risk assessments. Accountable for cloud service frameworks and adherence to industry best practices and standards. Works with application and infrastructure teams to ensure that policies and standards are integrated and applied appropriately across the environment. Possesses a thorough understanding of complex IT systems, experienced in enterprise systems integration and stay up to date with the latest standards, emerging technologies, as well as best practices. May create detailed design and implementation specifications for complex products/applications/solutions.
Job Requirements
Cloud:
- Detailed knowledge in creating cloud service architectures (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS) for public, private and hybrid cloud services. NetApp product experience required.
- Design experience with one or more public cloud service providers: AWS, Azure or Google.
- Experience with value case, technical capabilities, and automation integration of DevOps platform software technologies.
- Demonstrated work in migration of traditional infrastructure and applications to cloud services.
- Some knowledge of cloud native security controls.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of Cloud One (NetApp IT hybrid cloud platform) & NetApp on NetApp policies, reference architectures, and process documentation.
- Conduct reviews for Cloud One projects to ensure they meet requirements and target-state architectures.
- Determine Cloud One requirements by evaluating business strategies and requirements; research Infrastructure, Platform, and Cloud industry standards; study Cloud One architecture and identifying integration issues.
Application:
- Advanced knowledge of DevOps concepts for Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery environments.
- Understanding of containerization technologies including proper application usage, cloud technology options, and cluster design best practices.
- Experience with public cloud PaaS options for application development.
- Prior experience as a developer is helpful but not required.
- Understanding of secure software development lifecycle.
General:
- Ability to create detailed, written future year strategy proposals. Facilitate the implementation of that strategy though enterprise architecture actions.
- Partner with IT Security to interpret compliance and security requirements. Design implementable and repeatable controls.
- Identify gaps in existing and proposed architectures and provide recommendations for risk resolution.
- A basic understanding of Enterprise Architecture and related principles.
- As a subject matter expert, act as a leader with IT team members to support ongoing and long-term initiatives and projects.
- Participate in Product M&A assessments as a subject matter expert working with our Infrastructure and platform teams.
- Comfortable communicating and presenting to engineers, management, executives, and customers.
- Drive NetApp on NetApp presentations with customers & partners to help our Sales & Engineering teams.
Skills
Cloud:
- Experience developing architectures in both traditional data center and public/private/hybrid cloud environments.
- Expert knowledge of cloud industry best practices.
- 4+ years working with one or more cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and deployment models (public, private, hybrid).
- 2+ years direct experience designing and implementing On Prem and Cloud infrastructure solutions for one or more leading cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
- 4+ years hands on experience building and deploying cloud aware and cloud native applications.
General:
- Experience with deployment orchestration and configuration management tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, Terraform, Kubernetes).
- Experience designing and implementing Networking and Firewall architecture and frameworks (preferred)
Education
Typically requires a minimum of 10 - 12 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
