Job Summary

The position’s primary function is to maximize NetApp’s ability to recognize revenue while limiting the economic and business risk to the Company through compliance measures and implementation of corporate policies. The position requires business partnership with Corporate Revenue, Field Finance, Sales, and Legal in implementing policies and addressing non-standard business requirements. 

The position will work to educate the front facing teams on revenue impacting issues and provide guidance to enable these teams to identify and manage non-standard revenue-impacting issues.

Job Requirements

Essential Functions: 
Act as a business partner supporting the field controllers, contract management, sales operations and sales teams providing technical revenue accounting advice and guidance to help structure and analyze large and complex deals to maximize revenue yield and limit economic exposure to the company.

•    Be a subject matter expert providing technical advice to business partners on revenue recognition in order to influence deal structures to optimize revenue outcomes for the company. 
•    Provide deal support including analysis of revenue, economic and structural elements of non-standard deals. Review of historical trends at a customer level, compliance with existing and proposed agreements, impact of financing and partner arrangements, discount trends, promotions, and growth opportunities
•    Review non-standard sales contracts and the non-standard terms in pending contracts and or amendments for compliance with revenue recognition policies in accordance with US GAAP and ASC 606. Identify and propose alternatives to terms that conflict with NetApp’s revenue goals.
•    Provide value to field Controllers and Sales in developing and documenting tools and business processes to streamline the deal review cycle for large non-standard deals. Design operational procedures and processes that meet compliance and audit standards while improving efficiency
•    Monitor deal status as it evolves and moves through the review and approval process.  Ensure deal is well understood and documented.  Review quote details for conflicts with deal structure. Ensure open items are addressed and brought to closure prior to submission for approval.  
•    Assist with compliance related initiatives, including the Annual & Quarterly Field Certification program and the Quarterly Accounting Errors program.

-    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
-    Strong analytical skills and ability to work both independently and on cross-functional teams.
-    Demonstrated ability to provide direction and leadership in team roles.
-    Ability to present ideas and concepts clearly to Senior Management and peers.
-    Demonstrated ability to effectively work cross functionally with all levels of a company, particularly executive sales, and finance management.
-    Broad conceptual judgment, initiative, and ability to deal with complex accounting and business issues.
-    Required expertise specifically related to complex deal structures and revenue recognition.
-    The tasks this individual is responsible for are often unstructured, have wide implications with multiple outcomes.
-    Individual will apply broad expertise or unique technical and industry knowledge in solving problems that are unique and extremely complex.
-    The focus of this role is on creating and influencing strategy and policy.

-    This individual must work effectively with Staff to Vice President level employees within the function, across functions and with external parties.
-    Limited supervision is provided, as this individual can operate, drive results, and set priorities independently.


-    Undergraduate degree in Business or Accounting
-    MBA/CPA with Big 4 audit experience a plus
-    7 years plus experience in Accounting / Finance
-    Revenue accounting and order to collect operational experience required
