Job Summary

NetApp’s Information Engineering (IE) team is the company’s shared technical publications and content strategy service. The writers in IE create technical documentation for NetApp products and solutions, and our development team designs and delivers our technical documentation service, docs.netapp.com. As a manager in IE, you will lead a collaborative team of writers dedicated to delivering high-quality technical documentation. You will help team members manage multiple, simultaneous projects from planning through delivery, and support the performance and professional growth of technical writers with varying backgrounds and levels of experience. As lead on technical documentation programs, you’ll interact with external and internal customers to address questions and define requirements in support of NetApp product releases. The IE team works continually to improve processes, systems, and tools, and as part of the team you will spearhead key programs in support of product requirements and strategic initiatives. You will be part of an open, collaborative team fueled by a culture of communication and innovation. 


Job Requirements

  • Lead a collaborative team of writers dedicated to delivering high-quality technical documentation for NetApp products.
  • Support team members as they manage multiple, simultaneous documentation projects from planning and estimation through development, delivery, and maintenance.
  • Support the performance and professional growth of technical writers with varying backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Lead programs to ensure delivery of technical documentation for a variety of business objectives.
  • Interact daily with external and internal customers through formal and informal channels to address questions and define requirements in support of NetApp product releases.
  • Collaborate with IE architects to develop content plans for NetApp products.
  • Understand how to interpret metrics, feedback, and other data to continuously improve customer experience.
  • Work with the IE team to improve processes, systems, and tools.
  • Develop and implement projects, policies, and procedures to ensure goals are met.


  • Degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leading technical content projects in a product development environment.
  • Experience leading content or technology teams, and program management.
  • Excellent business communication skills and command of writing best practices, publication standards and production processes.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to meet business objectives.
  • Experience with product release methodologies, and with JIRA or similar tools.
  • Experience with open-source and GitHub, AsciiDoc or Markdown.

Colorado Residents Only: If the Company determines this role will be performed in Colorado, the starting salary for this position is  (.9 compa*). This role could be eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, 401(K), Paid Time off (PTO), Company bonus, Employee stock purchase plan, and restricted stocks (RSU’s) *. Final compensation will be dependent on various factors such as location, qualifications, certifications, relevant work experience and other factors, consistent with applicable law.
