Job Summary

The NetApp Automated Labs group builds and delivers virtual and hardware based lab environments to NetApp and NetApp partner field staff for demonstration, education, and support purposes.  The demand for our services is growing.  We are seeking an experienced individual who can help us maintain a variety of virtual and hardware systems. This role requires a broad set of technical skills, with strengths in all of server virtualization, storage administration, networking, operations, and information security.

Example responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Contributing to the maintenance and operation of the lab infrastructure
  • Deploying new technologies
  • Creation and support of new automated services
  • Implementing and troubleshooting various aspects of the lab infrastructure, including virtualization systems, networks, and storage
  • Contributing to lab architecture requirements
  • Handling user- and instructor-submitted trouble reports
  • Documenting and following operational procedures
  • Exchanging information with other staff working in and using the lab environments

Job Requirements

Technical

  • Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and understanding how to apply them
  • In-depth knowledge of operational aspects of virtualization technologies
  • Intermediate-level network and performance-related troubleshooting and debugging skills: e.g., packet trace, log analysis, perfstat analysis, script debugging
  • Intermediate-level knowledge of VMware vSphere 5 and later architecture and capabilities
  • Intermediate-level knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Good understanding of disk storage subsystems (NetApp FAS and e-Series is required) and their architecture, and storage protocols (e.g., NFS, CIFS, FC SAN, and iSCSI SAN)
  • Ability to script in at least one commonly used language – (PowerShell, Bourne Shell, and PERL are most desirable)
  • Knowledge of NetApp Common Test Libraries and the NetApp Automated Test Environment is a plus

Non-Technical

  • Willing and able to travel occasionally, domestic and international (0-10%)
  • Ability to clearly articulate (written and verbal) complex technical topics
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated technical coordination skills

Education

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
