Job Requirements

Essential Functions:

The Unix Systems Engineer will work as part of the Unix Engineering team in IT providing support for the Unix/Linux based servers in the Corporate datacenters. Your specific areas of responsibilities include:

  • Use Ansible to automate the configuration of Unix/Linux servers in the environment.
  • Use scripting languages like Python and Bash to automate tasks and gather data.
  • Provide support for various operating systems such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, Cent OS, IBM AIX, and Oracle Solaris.
  • Provide support for various services in the environment such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, LDAP, FTP and SMTP.
  • Ability to troubleshoot performance issues on systems and make recommendations where necessary to improve server configurations.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
  • Create and update process documentation.


  • MUST: Experience with automation/configuration management using either Ansible, Puppet or Chef (Ansible Preferred)
  • MUST: experience with Python other scripting languages such as Perl, Ruby etc
  • Required experience with code repositories like Github or Atlassian
  • Experience with tools to build the automation pipeline to build/patch/update UNIX systems
  • Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services
  • Hands-on experience in build and administer VMs and Containers using tools such as Docker, Kubernetes etc
  • Experience in designing and maintaining cloud-based solutions with AWS or Azure or Google
  • Experience with SQL, MySQL, Mango DB and NoSQL
  • A working understanding of code and script (PHP, Python, Perl and/or Ruby)
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
  • MUST: Expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux,
  • Experience with Ubuntu & Cent OS.
  • Experience of IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris.
  • Knowledge of networking and storage protocols.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; including ability to write technical documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various teams, as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to handle multiple complex tasks, with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to adhere to policies, procedures and standards relating to systems management.
  • Ability to work a 24x7 on-call rotation schedule.

Job Summary

As a Unix Systems Engineer you will work as part of a team of highly technical professionals who design, deliver and support NetApp’s Unix/Linux environment. You will utilize your technical background and related experience to help contribute to the department’s vision for advancing NetApp’s infrastructure. In this role, you’ll work collaboratively with Application teams to deploy and operate our systems. Help automate and streamline our operations and processes. Build and maintain tools for deployment, monitoring and operations. And troubleshoot and resolve issues in our dev, test and production environments. To be successful you will need a strong technical orientation, be a creative problem solver, have excellent customer service skills, and work well in a team-oriented environment.

**This is role is combination of Devops and Administrator functions and responsibilities***


Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer related field; or 8 years and a Master’s degree in computer related field; or a PhD with 5 years experience; or equivalent experience.
