Job Summary
As a principal engineer on the Data Services team at NetApp you will be part of the Trident program that brought the first open-source, out-of-tree dynamic storage provisioner to Kubernetes! You will own and define the Kubernetes story for NetApp. The role will require you to evangelize the solution in an open-source environment. You will be responsible for pushing adoption of the proposed solution.
Our team at NetApp develops innovative and unique solutions to assist our customers in solving the challenges of persistent storage consumption for Kubernetes applications and other container technologies. We work closely with upstream communities to provide code and leadership in defining the persistent storage strategy in these areas.

He/she strives to excel in their day-to-day work and will continue to produce high quality results without anyone looking over their shoulders. They will bring broad experience across multiple domains including embedded systems, operating systems, storage technologies and distributed systems.
Job Requirements
Responsibility:
As a principal engineer you will design and lead the team in important architectural decisions. The candidate will provide technical leadership for the team(s) they are associated with and participate in key technical decisions. They will engage with product management on roadmaps and engage with customers on escalations and ensure that there is continuous improvement in all areas.
Essential Functions:
- Participate in technical discussions within the team and with other groups within Business Units associated with specified projects
- Responsible for providing guidance in development and testing activities of other engineers that involve several inter-dependencies
- Work on multiple tasks and responsibilities that will contribute towards team, program, and company goals
- Coding and Execution of projects, Technical Design
- Test Automation
- Debugging/Performance analysis
- Running PoCs and R&D activities
- Enforce best practices for software design and development by involving in appropriate reviews
- Strong aptitude for learning new technologies
- Resourceful in applying creative ideas to solve problems
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science
- Excellent coding skills in Golang and Python
- A strong understanding of concepts related to computer architecture, data structures and programming practices
- Deep technical knowledge of Kubernetes
- Understanding of Hyper Scaler technologies: AWS, GCP and AZURE
- Experience with NetApp storage or cloud native storage platforms
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- A deep understanding of object-oriented programming and design
- The candidate should have a working knowledge of Agile Scrum best practice
Compensation:
The target salary range for this position is $192,000-$270,000. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off (PTO), various Leave options, Performance-Based Incentives, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s), with all offerings subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies.
