Job Summary

As a Solutions Engineering Manager in NetApp’s Sales function, you are responsible for directing all aspects of the Solutions Engineering organization for your assigned Region for selling NetApp’s products or services to existing and future clients. You develop strategies and shorter-term plans to meet performance goals. You must be customer focused, technologically savvy, and able to lead and create great teams that achieve our customer's business goals. 

Essential Functions

The most effective candidate for this role will lead from the front in interactions with customers, partners, and internal audiences. The overall responsibilities of the Solutions Engineering Manager are to provide management oversight to both Account Technology Strategists and Solutions Engineers. Including selecting, hiring and developing results-oriented professional employees. The Specific areas of responsibility include:

  • Leading change as NetApp is heading to become a recognized cloud-based software company and transforming towards a highly specialized, team-based selling methodology.
  • Lead by example in creating business positive outcomes in RFI/RFP responses and managing POC's for large central government institutions (active network in this area is preferred).
  • Well versed in current development in the storage domain and virtualization space.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a matrixed organization to determine priorities and achieve outcomes – particularly to gain buy-in and drive progress related to initiatives.
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions with the Sales Management team on a quarterly and annual basis to create a local sales and marketing plan to drive revenue.
  • Plan and direct activities including planning and implementing forecasts, marketing program development, relationship development, customer satisfaction, and collateral material development and distribution.
  • Identify needed resources for supporting sales strategy and develop a proposed budget for Senior Management review.
  • Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure departmental goals are met.
  • Assume responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing. 

Management

  • This individual uses their management and technical skills to contribute to the development of company objectives and principles, and to achieve sales goals in creative and effective ways.
  • This individual manages the coordination of activities for a specific geographic region or territory, with full responsibility for oversight in terms of costs, methods and staffing.
  • May act as an advisor or subject matter expert to unit or sub-unit.
  • Sets revenue targets and ensures targets are met.
  • Effectively manage escalation issues with customers, senior management, support and product development.

Interaction

  • This level of manager successfully manages subordinate level supervisors.
  • This individual must effectively work with, and influence senior internal personnel within the function, peers in other functions, and has direct customer contact.
  • Has the ability to gain cooperation of others through leadership, mentoring, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Receives Senior Management review of objectives to determine success.

Education & Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years experience authoring RFI and RFP responses for large government institutions
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience as an individual contributor.
  • 1 to 5 years as a people manager or in a leader role is preferable. 
  • A Bachelor of Arts of Sciences Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science; or related field is required; a Graduate Degree is preferred.
  • Experience which demonstrates a significant level of expertise in technical specifications to sell NetApp products and services is required.
