Title:  Principal Engineer

Job Summary

As a principal engineer in the Cloud Services team within the Cloud Business Unit, you have the unique opportunity to be part of a team that is pioneering a new services business for NetApp that delivers cloud data services within the largest cloud provider ecosystems. This role is a critical function that will work closely with product management, architects, services engineering and operations teams to architect and deliver highly differentiated ONTAP cloud services offerings that are run by NetApp.  As part of the leadership team, this role owns the overall design of the ONTAP Cloud services across multiple teams.  

The essential functions of this role:

- partner with the product management teams and the cloud partners to define the services requirements;

- own the design and delivery of the core service (ONTAP based technology) and mutually own the overall service delivery along with our orchestration and management teams;

- be a key contributor to achieve highly available and repeatable services offerings built on both NetApp FAS platforms and ONTAP Cloud software platforms;

- be a strong leader in providing know-how, guidance and mentoring to the broader teams on the requirements and skills needed to provide unique cloud services.

This position is an individual contributor reporting to the cloud service business owner.

 

Job Requirements

- A strong understanding of concepts related to cloud services architecture, data structures, programming and delivery practices;

- Deep working knowledge of NetApp’s ONTAP operating system, including file/cloud protocols (NFS/CIFS/S3), data management/protection technologies and scale requirements;

- proven experience building and maintaining a large scale cloud service, preferably built on ONTAP;

- Work collaboratively within a fast paced team environment to meet aggressive goals that require pioneering of new things at NetApp; must excel at “getting stuff done”

- Must be a key arbitrator and advisor for technology decisions

- Resourceful in applying creative ideas to solve problems

- Team player who is a best-in-class collaborator

Education

Minimum of 15 years of related experience is required.  A Bachelor of Science or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science or related technical discipline is highly desired.  Must have demonstrated ability to have successfully completed multiple, moderately complex technical tasks.
