Job Summary

 

The IT Senior Director of Business Process Automation will lead and drive our business processes automation strategy across NetApp globally. This individual will report to the CIO and will represent the Office of the CIO in partnering with executive leadership across corporate support functions to assess and migrate today’s predominately manually-executed business process flows to fully automated tasking. 

With the key focus of continued business enablement and transformation, this role will drive process improvement strategies and roadmap to orchestrate a well-coordinated, global effort to automate select business processes to reduce operating costs, while improving the overall velocity of NetApp business. 

In summary, the Senior Director of Business Process Automation will establish a core competency in RPA across NetApp.  This role will work closely with management peers to identify opportunities to reduce cost and complexity by intelligently deploying process automation wherever possible. He or she will establish working set of best practices, platform standards, proven architectures, and partner resource companies to reduce risk and reduce the time to practical benefit realization.  This person will be comfortable in the future conveying a compelling NetApp-on-NetApp story.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Director of Business Process Automation:    

 

  • Develop, implement, and manage a NetApp enterprise-wide business process automation strategy to ensure the lowest possible TCO for recursive business processes.
  • Work directly with business unit leaders to facilitate implementation of ROI-driven initiatives to achieve lower organizational operating costs.
  • Review current business processes to ensure streamlined operations and seek to remove non-value-added overhead and customization wherever possible; automate simpler processes where possible.
  • Work closely with Corporate Procurement to establish favorable supplier agreements and MSA’s for on-premise and SaaS software platforms and process consultancies.
  • Assess new tools and emerging platforms to establish NetApp competencies in RPA.
  • Develop a roadmap for driving adoption of business process automation across the various SG&A functions of NetApp.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to executive management on a broad range of automation capabilities for the company.
  • Develop business-relevant metrics and dashboards to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the global automation program. Track business process defect reductions.
  • Deliver regular program updates to the ESTC, CIO and CFO staff meetings, and at CEO Staff/Transformation Office briefings.
  • Track cumulative cost savings and directly related headcount reductions across the enterprise. Compare end-state statistics to best-in-breed benchmarks.
  • Maintain a close relationship with peer companies and IT executive neighbors, thus ensuring best practice adoption and continuing to benefit from collegial lessons-learned. 
  • Manage and develop a direct team of technical professionals.

Key Business Process Transformation and Automation Objectives and Success Metrics

 

  • Business Process Management Strategy
    • Coordinate the development of the enterprise automation strategy by engaging all company stakeholders; ensure global coverage and oversight
    • Build and publish NetApp enterprise automation roadmaps
    • Conduct routine peer communications and educational narratives via the ESTC
    • Maintain an active “dashboard” of continuous automation improvements
    • Establish and co-own all information automation projects and AOP funding; ensure no future “shadow IT” in this quickly emerging technology space
  • Metrics and Measures
    • Create, leverage, and monitor key metrics regarding establishment of RPA and business process automation
    • Develop a robust automation ROI model for the company
    • Develop and deploy automation target state architecture through close alliance with the NetApp IT Enterprise Architecture team. Document and share
  • Business Process Awareness and Education
    • Based on a thorough needs assessment, develop and implement enterprise-wide RPA communication channels to drive and promote program awareness
    • Educate NetApp business function leaders on savings and other benefits associated with early POC deployments; generate infectious enthusiasm
  • Adopter of New Technologies
    • Identify a limited number of preferred software tools and automation platforms per the NetApp TSA. Consider both on-premise and Cloud-based opportunities
    • Establish best-in-class procedures to document NetApp business area workflows
    • Review emerging technologies and invest in preferred platforms supporting the automation agenda
    • Gain expertise in streamlining business processes and eliminating wasted cycles
  • NetApp-on-NetApp Narratives
    • Monitor, audit, assess success and payback associated with business process automation initiatives
    • Identification of a core set of representative narratives to share with NetApp customers to further establish the credibility of NetApp as a Data Authority

Education

 

Qualifications of the Senior Director of Business Process Automation:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a highly technical discipline (Masters, JD or MBA, highly preferred).
  • 15+ years of experience in the IT field and 5+ years in an enterprise business application and ERP supporting role.
  • History of VP, SVP and EVP level executive interaction experience preferred. Strong business acumen needed with an ability to quickly summarize results.
  • Demonstrated experience driving pragmatic strategy with cross-functional executive stakeholders.
  • Good working knowledge of ERP systems and associated workflows. Proven knowledge and applied experience across multiple Enterprise Applications verticals (e.g. Finance, HR, Legal, IT, Supply Chain and Procurement, Customer Service, Sales Operations, WPR).
  • Proven pragmatist, one who thrives on tangible business results and a willingness to move quickly to the next challenge.
  • Persistent personality, willing to work through complexity and roadblocks to achieve beneficial end goals.
  • Hands-on experience with complex business process redesign.  Must know how to capture and inventory business process flow logic.  Willingness to dive into the details when necessary.
  • Working understanding of Bots and Robotic processes and RPA in general.
  • Working understanding of the principles of Machine Learning and adaptive process design.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change and work with multiple business units to affect positive outcomes.
  • Persuasive personality to guide leadership through the benefits and challenges of automating complex business processes.  Can create a willing coalition.
  • High quality interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with end-users, IT peers, industry suppliers and business area management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, public speaking, communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong collaborator with other IT executives during the exciting journey (and laborious details) of adopting best practices in process automation and RPA.
