Job Summary

As a software engineer in Performance Engineering, you will work as part of a team responsible for modeling, measurement and analysis of storage systems performance. As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market. Performance engineers focus on performance analysis and improvement for new products and features as well as enhancements to existing products and features.

This position requires an individual to be creative, team-oriented, technology savvy, able to lead large cross-functional teams, and driven to produce results.

Job Requirements

- Create analytical and simulation models to predict the performance of different features and components of storage systems
- Evaluate design trade-offs for enhanced performance
- Tune existing designs for benchmark results and collect measurement information for future systems development.
- Find and resolve performance issues and performance regressions in the product
- Work closely with development teams to drive performance improvement agenda
- Develop performance sizing models, as needed

- Resolve potential complex performance issues in the customer environment, if escalated from support organization
- Willingness to work on additional tasks and responsibilities that will positively contribute towards team, department, and company goals.

- In-depth knowledge of performance analysis and modeling techniques, tools and benchmarking,
- Extensive knowledge and experience in computer operating systems, computer architecture and design, data structures and standard programming practices.

- Knowledge of storage and file systems, systems programming, highly desirable
- Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
- Work collaboratively with senior and more junior engineers and have strong influencing and leadership skills
- Work on complex issues where analysis situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors
- Creative and analytical approach to problem solving

 

- Responsible for unstructured tasks and the issues addressed are less defined requiring new perspectives, creative approaches and with more inter-dependencies
- Apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving problems that are complex in scope requiring in-depth evaluation

Interaction:
- Limited supervision and direction is provided, as this individual can operate, drive results and set priorities independently
- Successfully convey information to stakeholders at many levels related to the position
- Work effectively with senior engineers and leaders within Business Unit
- Participate as a proactive contributor and subject matter expert
- Demonstrate favorable results through regular leadership and mentoring others

 

Education

- A minimum of 8 years of experience is required. 9 to 11 years of experience is preferred
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required
- Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects
