Job Summary

The Senior Technical Director of Software Engineering plays a key leadership and consultative role related in NetApp’s longer term strategy, influencing both Product Management and Product Architects to drive changes in investments across the portfolio.. As part of the CTO function, the overall focus of the group is on defining major trends driving business and technology changes in the Enterprise IT industry,, the implications to our customers of these trends, and how our portfolio needs to evolve. The CTO function is responsible for taking a longer term view than the product teams while also supporting their nearer term efforts

This role would also be responsible for ensuring critical technology connectivity is in place between core engineering functions within NetApp, taking advantage of common architectural blocks when appropriate to deliver increased value to customers, accelerate time to market and lower development costs.

As a key element of developing a technology roadmap, this person in this position would be required to develop and articulate a multi-faceted platform strategy that delivers increasing value to customers while growing software revenue and increasing storage market share and overall revenue growth to NetApp.
Essential Functions:
- A major part of this responsibility will be to work on issues that impact development success or address future concepts, products or technologies. The strategic scope of this position involves helping to mold and shape NetApp’s Data Fabric Platform architectural direction which includes defining software APIs, ecosystem partnerships. Additionally, this role will help guide the evolution of Data Fabric Services that will be developed within the other business groups. Our primary goal is to deliver industry leading data management services and solutions and to build a successful software business.

In addition to influencing internal teams within NetApp, the Sr. Technical Director is responsible for working with NetApp’s partners to understand and influence leading edge roadmaps for data protection, data governance, data security and other aspects of data management as well as understanding and influencing the evolution of storage technologies that underpin the Data Fabric.

- This individual will provide future technical vision to the Software Development group.
- Successfully negotiate strategic and other issues which effect the business internally and externally.
- Must be a seasoned communicator and presenter.
- Maintain affiliations and relationships with academic and industry technical experts globally and serve as external spokesperson for the company.
- Provide leadership and guidance to senior engineers.

Job Requirements

- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, particularly presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other engineers and senior professionals across functions; and have strong influencing and leadership skills.
- Recognized expert in software design and development – SAS enterprise experience is required.
- A strong understanding of the most complex concepts related to computer architecture, data structures and programming practices.
- Ability to develop strategic project plans and schedules for complex projects or new product developments.
- A background in security Exposure to security aspects of the technology.
-A background in data protection/fabric, data strategy as well as backup and recovery experience is required.

- A minimum of 15+ years of experience is required.
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required.
- Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, extremely complex technical projects.
