In this role, you will be the communications partner for the Corporate Strategy Office at NetApp, reporting to the Director of Business Unit and Corporate Strategy Office Communications.  You will be a member of the CSO staff and directly support the SVP Chief Strategy Officer and his staff.  You will work directly with senior executives and key stakeholders in the CSO and around the company to translate ideas and strategies into compelling communications across a range of media: presentations, speeches, email, videos, blogs, etc. Your role is both a highly personal and highly cross functional one. You will serve as strategic counsel to your executive(s) and will develop and drive communications strategy for both internal and external audiences. Internally, you’ll be responsible for communications that inform, align, and inspire to help build a high-performance CSO team.  Externally, you’ll create content that tells the NetApp story of transformation and articulate our strategy and direction.  You will also collaborate with the extended executive communications team, model the corporate messaging, and work together to align communications and messaging across business units and the company.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Acts as a primary liaison to the SVP&CSO, his staff, key stakeholders, and the broader corporate communications community
  • Demonstrates ability to think both strategically and tactically, balancing strategic messaging development while also managing the details of execution
  • Understands the executive’s function and business strategy as well as the connection points with other areas of the business (e.g. sales, product, strategy)
  • Provides strategic communication advice to help increase the impact of an executives’ business priorities
  • Develops, in collaboration with the extended communications team, an overarching communications strategy including a spokesperson platform and communications priorities
  • Creates and manages compelling, original, executive-level content for internal and external communication that is tuned for audience and delivery
  • Establishes an engagement model with the executive, executive team (Administrator, Operations Lead/Chief of Staff), and other stakeholder groups to proactively manage communications work
  • Acts as communications advocate across all target audiences, influencing not only your executives’ communications, but the broader executive communications discipline
  • Acts as subject matter expert for the executives’ business, including the corporate strategy, portfolio strategy, acquisition strategy, and long-term technology trends.
  • Is responsible for creating and maintaining subject-based messages and content on an ongoing basis
  • Is responsible for quality of content as well as delivery on time and on budget
  • Partners with external communications disciplines (PR, AR, IR, Corporate Communications) on opportunities

Job Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will be flexible, but organized and able to drive discipline in a multi-tasking environment
  • Must be able to balance strategic content creation with operational execution of communications programs
  • Strategic communications planning and execution with the proven ability to demonstrate understanding and strategic thinking across multiple communication disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to partner across a leadership team in support of an executive and their platform - ability to work with executive’s staff in a collaborative, productive way to develop key messages and tie together disjointed information into a cohesive story
  • Excellent communications skills through all media to synthesize complex subjects into key compelling narratives and messages
  • Experience advising/working directly with executives with ability to influence stakeholders from the most senior executives to individual contributors
  • Strong understanding of the IT industry
  • Proven ability to simplify and visually represent complex technology and products, and uplevel messaging in alignment with corporate message.
  • Executive communications or PR/Agency experience required; product management and/or product marketing experience desirable
  • Experience developing CxO level communications using imagery, video, and other graphics to express ideas
  • Experience with “big show” messaging, presentation development and execution - Sales Kickoffs, Customer Shows, Advisory Boards


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business administration, or related field
  • 15+  Years of internal/external communications in varied disciplines, such as organizational communication, executive communication, and public relations, with clearly demonstrable impact
  • Technology product management or product marketing experience is desireable
