Job Summary

NetApp University (NetAppU) is seeking a Senior Editor to lead its editorial team. NetAppU needs a highly organized, detailed-oriented individual with exceptional editorial judgement and proven ability to edit training materials-for both technical and sales. The Senior Editor collaborates across internal and external teams, prioritizes tasks, supervises and mentors the editorial team, and develops and implements NetApp University editorial strategy. This position reports into the NetApp University Production Services Manager and interfaces with editors, graphic designers, production specialists, and vendors. The Senior Editor position is based out of NetApp's Sunnyvale corporate campus. 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Manage the day-to-day activity of NetAppU's editorial resources. Provide direction and consultation on projects. Monitor and facilitate productive communication between editors and clients.

• Supervise the day-to-day work of the editorial project manager. Provide guidance regarding project assignments, schedules, editorial approach, and communication with clients. 

• Organize and chair editorial team meetings to discuss and define editorial standards, best practices, and processes. 

• Respond to questions and concerns of content creators. Provide information, discuss issues, and listen to feedback. 

• Provide job aids and training to NetAppU content creators on the use of NetAppU templates, editorial guidelines, and editorial tools such as Acrolinx, and spellchecker. 

• Stay abreast of, communicate, and support adherence to NetApp branding and positioning-to promote a consistent NetApp voice and to support company initiatives and messaging. 

• Engage and collaborate with content groups throughout NetApp to align in regard to terminology and style. Represent NetAppU on cross-departmental initiatives that relate to editorial standards, terminology, and naming. 

• Research product information and update the NetApp University Terms Database and the Acrolinx terminology database to ensure that NetAppU style and terminology guidelines support the NetApp message.

• Collaborate with NetAppU's graphic designers, content developers, and managers to create and refine NetAppU templates for a variety of learning materials. 

• Review editorial processes for opportunities to simplify workflows. Adjust editorial processes to support evolving user requirements.

• Edit NetApp's learning content for clarity, consistency, organization, and effectiveness. Conduct editorial reviews on a broad range of learning materials-courses (ILT, VILT, and e-learning) and ancillary materials (assessments, certification exams, videos, microlearning lessons, and so on) for a range of internal and external audiences (sales, pre-sales, post-technical sales, and so on).


 

Job Requirements

• Possession of strong leadership, organizational, communication, and project-management skills.

• Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects of varying complexities at once, meet deadlines, work independently, and function effectively under pressure.  

• Ability to contribute to a learning organization-with expertise in learning and development methodologies, instructional best practices, and instructional design.

• Experience creating and maintaining editorial style guides, terminology databases, and glossaries. 

• Experience leading a geographically distributed editorial team.

• Knowledge of and experience with minimalism and localization strategies.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint). 

Education

Education and Experience

 

• Five plus years in editing and managing technical content, preferably in a learning and development organization. 

• Three plus years in managing resources (people, processes, and tools) and in working collaboratively.

• BA degree in a language-related field. 

• Graduate work in a field related to language and/or training preferred.
