Job Summary

An IC Commodity Manager at NetApp is instrumental in the oversight of NetApp’s commercial relationship with companies that produce NetApp products. This role ensures strong supplier partnerships that deliver optimal performance across cost, quality, supply continuity, and technology access. The IC Commodity Manager works closely with cross-functional teams including Engineering and Operations throughout the full component lifecycle, from design-in through end of service. The IC Commodity Manager will collaborate across the organization to drive activities related to Analog Power / Signal Chain / Discrete / Timing Devices with responsibilities including but not limited to: 

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Market Expertise 

  • Know the IC market landscape and the dynamics, understanding the market sweet spots for NetApp’s products. 
  • Manage the IC commodities; including owning the supplier relationships, developing the sourcing strategies, and executing the daily and cyclical operational activities entailed with these commodities. 
  • Establish and maintain a Preferred Supplier List (PSL) aligned with technical capabilities, risk mitigation, and business objectives, and influence Engineering design decisions accordingly. 

 

Negotiation & Commercial Management 

  • Be the expert for commercial items with your suppliers and components they sell NetApp: Price, T&Cs, MOQs, EOQs, Lead Times, SMI, all contracts/agreements, performance, and use of distribution; benchmark with industry sources. 
  • Lead commercial and contractual negotiations with IC suppliers, including NDAs, Long-Term Agreements (LTAs), pricing frameworks, and hub/VMI arrangements. 
  • Develop creative solutions to achieve best-in-class lead-times, lowest cost of ownership, MOQ & flexibility in the supply chain. 
  • Implement cost reductions on prototype and series production components and services. 

 

Supplier Relationship Management 

  • Develop and nurture executive relationships with suppliers to achieve healthy partnerships, security of supply, early technology access, strategic pricing and business terms, high priority, and mindshare. 
  • Monitor supplier performance through scorecards and regular business reviews; drive continuous improvement in delivery, quality, and responsiveness. 
  • Act as escalation path when suppliers are not meeting delivery commitments, quality requirements, or product support milestones. 

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Manage within NetApp, our design and manufacturing partners and with our suppliers to drive roadmap alignment, product support, qualifications, continued process improvements, ensuring NetApp releases products both on time and below market cost. 
  • Influence internal and external engineering teams’ design decisions using a preferred supplier list to meet technical capabilities, risk mitigation needs, and business objectives. 
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, NPI, and Planning teams to align on component selection, roadmap priorities, and qualification timelines. 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Electrical Engineering, Business, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred. 
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in operations working with contract manufacturing or account management working for leading EMS, contract manufacturers, ODMs or OEMs. 
  • Demonstrated track record working with the key suppliers in the Analog Power / Signal Chain / Discrete / Timing Devices market. 
  • Proven track record of advanced problem solving of complex technical and/or commercial challenges. 
  • Strong analytical skills; proficiency in MS Office familiarity with IC cost benchmarking platforms is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools in daily work to improve efficiency, analytical depth, or output quality  
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin
