Job Summary

As a Sales Engineer in NetApp’s dynamic Cloud Data Services business unit, you will utilize your strong technical competency and consultative skills to deliver successful customer outcomes and support sales goals for NetApp's cloud and software portfolio. Working primarily in the enterprise segment of the market, you will become acquainted with customers’ business requirements, technical needs, processes, systems and tools, enabling you to present targeted solutions with demonstrable business benefits. You will work directly with a Cloud Data Services (CDS) Sales Specialist, as well as with other teams within NetApp, to create and execute on a strategy for success of the CDS business in the UK and the rest of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The sales engagement model is ‘co-prime’, so some opportunities will be handled directly, and others in partnership with the ‘core’ NetApp sales teams.

Job Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-drive, or initiative, or however you want to put it. You will not be closely supervised, so we need someone who will go out and drive business, without being prompted
  • Strong consultative skills, to understand customer pain and initiatives
  • Ability to converse comfortably at multiple levels and across multiple teams in a large organisation; e.g. from operations staff up to executives, across infrastructure, service management, cloud and other teams
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritise and address multiple projects concurrently
  • Strong technical knowledge of cloud concepts, as well as on-premises infrastructure and workloads
  • Understanding of ROI and other business case justification techniques
  • Appetite to learn
  • Travel within the UK & Ireland (UK&I) to customer locations, and occasionally further afield


Job Responsibilities:

  • Alongside a CDS Sales Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering against sales and subscriptions targets for the CDS portfolio in global and enterprise accounts in the UK&I, as well as contributing to the wider EMEA targets
  • Evangelise CDS portfolio solutions within the wider NetApp, and partner, communities
  • This is a dynamic market and team, so you will be expected develop or enhance processes, tools, presentations, techniques, and share those improvements across the CDS team in EMEA
  • Demonstrate leadership and vision in determining and driving both tactical and strategic decisions
  • Reflect requirements from customers and partners back to the engineering teams within NetApp for future enhancements


Regular Activities:

  • Sales:
    • Qualifying customer needs, and the fit of the solutions NetApp offers
    • Designing solutions that may include one or more of software, cloud subscriptions and professional services
    • Running technical workshops to demonstrate solutions to customer problems and initiatives
    • Designing and running proof-of-concepts to illustrate the fit of solutions within the customer’s environment
    • Assisting with business case design and delivery
    • Handover new customer wins to professional services and / or customer success
  • Evangelism:
    • Presentations at customer executive briefings
    • Speaking at NetApp and partner events
    • Presenting at district meetings for the ‘core’ NetApp sales teams
  • Improvement / learning time:
    • Staying abreast of the latest developments in public cloud services
    • Acquiring / maintaining technical expertise
    • Developing or enhancing processes and techniques employed by the CDS sales and technical teams

Education & Experience

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience is required
  • A University Degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience is required
  • Experience working with public cloud providers
  • Experience in data center systems and infrastructure management solutions
  • Experience in enterprise software sales is desired
