NetApp OnCommand Insight (OCI) is looking for a Sr. Java Developer to join the team that helps the largest enterprises and organizations in the world to manage their highly complex data centers and infrastructure across private and public clouds. On the OCI team you will solve the problem of collecting and interacting with massive amount of data to deliver intelligent operational management, data analytics, and business insights.

As a Software Engineer you will work as part of a fast pace team responsible for the developing and maintaining the OnCommand Insight software suite. The product is responsible for collecting and analyzing data from large-scale heterogeneous environments to assist enterprise customers in managing and optimizing their datacenters. The Insight product is used by several Fortune 500 companies to manage and analyze datacenters with dozens of petabytes of managed data and tens of thousands of distinct devices and is a significant revenue generator for NetApp. As a member of the research and development group, you will take part in interpreting requirements, developing, testing, and releasing data collection packages.

This position requires an individual to be creative, team-oriented, technology savvy, able to lead large cross-functional teams, and driven to produce results. 

Essential Functions:
- Lead the design, verification and release of systems or major subsystems
- Participate in any and/or all phases of the product development cycle from product definition and design, through implementation including:
- Testing and/or Unit Testing
- Researching and reverse engineering device architectures
- Designing 
- Test automation
- Debugging
- Reliability 
- Performance analysis
- Critical and/or high visibility customer support
- Understand the implications of new technology and how it can be applied to product design and product evolution
- Work on architecture, design and product definition that leads and influences decisions and outcomes related to project direction 
- Act as a technical adviser and resource to other engineers and cross functional departments across Business Units 
- Provide guidance and mentoring to more junior engineers 
- A willingness to work on additional tasks and responsibilities that will positively contribute towards team, department, and company goals

Job Requirements

- Advanced core Java knowledge required
- Familiarity with protocols nice to have (HTTP, SSH, SNMP, SMI-S, etc.)
- Exposure to system design and concerns a bonus (memory management, multi-threading, etc.)
- Familiarity with data collection technologies a plus (FluentD, Netflow, CollectD, Logstash, etc.)
- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential 
- Familiarity with SaaS deployment and operation a plus
- Work collaboratively within a team environment of other engineers to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards 
- Possesses sufficient technical knowledge and experience to pick up new expertise quickly with guidance from a technical leader 
- Strong aptitude for learning new technologies 
- A strong understanding of complex concepts related to computer architecture, data structures and programming practices 
- Ability to estimate work completion required to build an overall predictable plan 
- Follow standard engineering principles and practices 
- Resourceful in applying creative ideas to solve problems 

Responsibility and Interaction: 

Responsibility:
- Responsible for non-routine and unstructured tasks, requiring creative solutions with more interdependencies and with processes that are less defined 
- The individual works on complex problems with partially defined, larger scope 
- May work with teams across the company in problem solving and design efforts 
- The individual will begin to develop a technical specialty

Interaction: 
- Work effectively with staff to senior manager level employees within the function and the technical team on assigned projects. There may be communication with employees in other functions within Business Units as required 
- Work independently 
- Successfully convey information to stakeholders at many levels related to the position 
- Participate as a proactive contributor and subject matter expert on team projects 
- Demonstrate favorable results through coaching and influencing others

Education

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.
