Title:  Product Quality Engineer

Job Summary:

Product Quality Engineer (Mfg): The product quality engineer’s primary responsibility will be to support supplier partnership for delivering quality products to our customers.  He/She will work across multiple groups in NetApp including Design engineering, Operation Engineering and Supply Chain management to develop and maintain our product documentation such as Product quality specification, Statement of work, Bill of Materials, Manufacturing processes and procedures, and quality data.  Good project management, communication and organizational skills are crucial in meeting organizational needs and adhering to tight deadlines. To be successful in this role, you must be a motivated self-starter and self-learner, have strong technical problem-solving skills; and be someone who embraces challenges.  

Essential Functions of Product Quality Engineer:  As part of a highly technical team, you will:

  • Develop product quality specification, quality plan and metrics
  • Monitor and manage supplier quality performance.
  • Drive quality performance improvement from NPI, to sustaining production and customer experience. 
  • Manage quality escalation: root cause, impact analysis, and mitigation plan 
  • Structure Bill of Materials (BOMs) for new products per customer requirement.
  • Work with our suppliers on Failure analysis, drive corrective actions and improvements.
  • Analyze product cycle time and work with suppliers to implement good quality and lean practices.
  • Assist our suppliers in the qualification and implementation of important product or process changes.
  • Participate in new product introduction by performing DFM, prototype assessment.
  • Qualify new suppliers, new components, and provide First Article Assessments.
  • Manage the transfer and set up of new products to a manufacturing site. Provide the required training and documentation.

Job Requirement:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skill to interact with internal groups and external contractors/specialists.
  • Strong experience in high tech manufacturing
  • Strong experience in PCBA manufacturing process (IPC standards) and component failure analysis
  • Strong experience in supplier technical quality management
    - Experience in DFM analysis
    - Experience in Failure Analysis
  • Ability to respond to changing priorities and can work under pressure
  • Have creative approach to problem solving.

Responsibility and Interaction:
The tasks this individual is responsible for are often unstructured and the issues addressed are less defined requiring new perspectives and creative approaches.

  • This individual will apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving problems that are complex in scope requiring in-depth evaluation.
  • Demonstrate good judgment in solving problems as well as identifying problems in advance, and proposing solutions.
  • This individual must work effectively with Staff to Vice President level employees within the function, across functions and with external parties.
  • Limited supervision and direction is provided, as this individual can operate and drive results and set priorities independently.
  • The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject matter expert.

Education and Experience 

A minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with  years experience; or equivalent experience.

  • Engineering or Sciences Degree is required, or equivalent experience.
  • ASQ Certification for Quality Engineer (CQE) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical tasks.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project and Agile PDM is a plus
