Job Summary

Quality Engineer position on a very dynamic engineering team responsible for all aspects of tests and quality of customer returned products.  The Product Quality Engineer’s primary responsibility is to ensure that products returned for repair and retest are processed with high quality standards.  This person will also be responsible for the analysis of data from returned material to drive corrective actions on current and future manufactured products.   The selected candidate will work across multiple groups at NetApp in support of our customer obligation for the duration of the life of our products.  Strong project management, communication and organizational skills are crucial in meeting organizational needs and adhering to tight deadlines. To be successful in this role, you must be a motivated self-starter and self-learner, have good technical problem-solving skills and be someone who embraces challenges.  

Job Requirements

Essential Functions of a Quality Engineer:  

  • Develop product quality documents for returned material
  • Review and approve first article inspection (FAI)
  • Monitor and manage supplier quality performance, host weekly meetings with the supplier
  • Perform data analysis on return and repair pareto to drive corrective actions
  • Create specific documentation or Bill of Material for RMA products
  • Work with our suppliers on Failure analysis and Root Cause Analysis on specific returned products
  • Provide technical support to the Planning, Inventory and Logistics team for returned material
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skill to interact with internal groups and external suppliers
  • Prior experience in high tech manufacturing
  • Prior experience in PCBA manufacturing process (IPC standards) and component failure analysis
  • Demonstrate a creative approach to problem solving.


  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience is required
  • A Bachelor of Engineering or Sciences Degree is required, or equivalent experience.
  • ASQ Certification for Quality Engineer (CQE) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite of software a must.
  • Knowledge of Agile PDM is a plus
