Job Summary

The storage industry is experiencing significant change as new storage technologies and interfaces are arriving at a rapid pace. This role is an opportunity to be a part of that history bringing new features and capabilities to market in a leadership position.


As a Senior Engineering HDD/SSD Program Manager you will plan, lead, and manage HDD and SSD qualification programs to supply drives for multiple business groups. You will take an active role in leading a cross functional team, focused on driving program execution through the New Product Introduction portion of the Product Life Cycle from definition through qualification, transfer to operations, and successful release to ship. This is a challenging position working in a very fast paced environment, with the opportunity to utilize your experience as a subject matter expert to positively influence team goals, as well as greater business outcomes.

Essential Functions:
- Lead the HDD/SSD Core/Product Teams consisting of professionals from Engineering Management, Marketing & Product Management, Operations, and Customer Support, to drive all pertinent issues related to the program life cycle.

- Be the nucleus that pulls other groups into a process that optimizes schedule and resource efficiency.

- Identify and communicate project scope and ensure program milestones and objectives are met as you drive, own, and report status on each of the several simultaneous projects following the documented Phase Review process.

- Communicate Program Qualification status and schedule changes and provide guidance which reflects department policy as you partner with and communicate status for the following teams (usually weekly):

            * Externally-facing account teams supporting eOEMs and other key HSG accounts

            * Teradata Account team (external)

            * Revenue Product Development teams (internal)

            * Development Program Teams (internal)

            * (CMT) Commodity Management Team (internal)

            * HDD and SSD Suppliers (external)
- Keep management informed of key issues and changes which may impact expected business results.

- Analyze problems and drive solutions involving multiple elements of program planning.
- Ensure that projects adhere to the company processes and initiate process improvements as needed.

Job Requirements

- Program Management training or demonstrated experience with a product life cycle and associated tools.

- Thorough grasp of all Operational activities and proven ability to execute quickly within defined processes and at their edge in a crisis.

- Demonstrated ability to leverage the expertise of others in a team environment to solve complex issues and meet aggressive goals.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in an open, participatory style that exposes true program state is essential.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills used in own role and as a muse to others.
- Ability to develop longer-range project plans and schedules to complete complex and inter-related projects.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to properly and appropriately message to the Supply Base side of NetApp’s business as well as the Customer side.

Responsibility and Interaction:
- The tasks this individual is responsible for are often unstructured, have wide implications and there are multiple outcomes.
- This individual will apply broad expertise or unique technical/industry knowledge in solving problems that are unique and extremely complex given time, budget and resource constraints.
- Demonstrate leadership and vision in determining and driving strategy decisions.

- This individual must work effectively with Staff to Vice President level employees within the function, across functions, and with external parties.
- Limited supervision is provided, as this individual can operate, drive results, and set priorities independently.
- The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject matter expert.
- To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable results through leadership and influencing multiple individuals and groups.
- Often acts as mentor or facilitator.



- A minimum of 12 years of experience is required
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience is required. A Master of Science Degree in Engineering or an MBA is desirable as is a PMP certification
- Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex projects
- Systems NPI experience is a plus
