Job Summary
As a Test Engineer for this position, you will be responsible for supporting the manufacturing testing of NetApp products throughout their lifecycle—from new product introduction (NPI) through to ongoing manufacturing support. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to contribute to the design, development, and implementation of test processes that achieve optimal product quality and test coverage. Working with OEM and EMS partner engineers, you will help address issues efficiently and support timely delivery standards for high-quality products. Responsibilities include developing, modifying, and executing software test plans and cases, both manually and through automation.
Success in this position requires solid technical skills and the ability to grow into project coordination responsibilities, particularly in process analysis and understanding business impacts. The role offers significant opportunities for continued technical growth and meaningful input into technical decisions that drive departmental objectives. Core responsibilities include contributing to manufacturing test strategies, working with engineering teams, supporting requirements validation for test automation, participating in equipment selection, conducting manufacturing verification tests, documenting procedures, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, analyzing yields, contributing to test coverage efforts, delivering feedback, supporting product transfers and setups, and assisting with test equipment utilization and maintenance.
Job Requirements
Technical Expertise:
- Foundational understanding of data storage technologies and storage operating systems. Familiarity with storage concepts including file systems, high availability configurations, virtualization layers, and system administration tools.
- Familiarity with NAS/SAN concepts and block-level and file-level protocols such as NFS, CIFS/SMB, and Fibre Channel (FC), including their general operational characteristics.
- Experience with or exposure to storage hardware components such as drives, disk shelves, IOM modules, cables, and controller configurations, including basic installation and troubleshooting procedures.
- Familiarity with drive types including SATA, SAS, NVMe, and SSD, and a basic understanding of their performance profiles and use cases.
- Exposure to storage networking topologies, including iSCSI, NFS over TCP/IP, and multipathing configurations.
- Good understanding of Linux or other Unix-like operating systems. Basic TCP/IP switching and routing understanding and configuration.
- Good understanding of computer hardware fundamentals, embedded systems, or electronics.
Testing & Validation:
- Experience executing test strategies and developing test scripts for storage and/or networking hardware.
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot storage hardware, firmware, and system software issues with guidance from senior team members.
- Ability to support requirements validation for test automation, assist with equipment selection, and conduct manufacturing verification tests.
- Experience analyzing test results, supporting yield analysis, and delivering actionable feedback to engineering teams.
- Familiarity with test environments involving firmware upgrades, controller swaps, and disk/shelf/IOM replacements.
- Prior manufacturing or factory experience in system test is desirable.
Statistical & Analytical Skills
- Familiarity with statistical techniques such as Pareto analysis, fishbone diagrams, and control charts (X-bar and R charts, Weibull analysis).
- Experience using descriptive statistics to characterize test processes and test results is desirable.
Software Development & Scripting
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Perl, or compiled languages like Java or C#.
- Strong automation skills. Ability to develop automated test solutions to reduce manual verification and parsing tasks.
- Ability to develop and modify test plans and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues.
- Experience with software development processes including requirements analysis, understanding design specifications, identifying testable areas and potential issues, triaging, and filing defects

Work Requirements

Education
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in storage systems testing, hardware testing, or test development.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
Compensation:
The target salary range for this position is $107,000-$125,000. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off, various Leave options, Performance-Based Incentives, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s), with all offerings subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies.
